49 CFR 178.337 — Specification MC 331 Cargo Tank

Construction spec for MC 331 tanks: compressed gases, such as propane.

The construction specification MC 331 cargo tanks are built to. These are pressure tanks for compressed gases, such as propane and anhydrous ammonia. The MC 331 has no DOT-series replacement, so it keeps its MC name.

Open it when you need to know what an MC 331 is supposed to be as built. For testing and inspecting a tank already in service, go to 49 CFR 180.407.

What a given tank may haul is set by the hazmat rules for each product, not by the tank type alone.
